some things that have happened to me did give me the creeps, like a few years ago when I lived in western Nebraska. I was sitting on the couch sipping coffee and reading about one of my Salem witch-trials ancestors who'd testified against one of the "witches," who was then hanged. Disgusted, I said, as if I were addressing this ancestor, "We need to talk!" Just then, my cup of coffee on the end table began to shake. Coffee splashed out as the cup rocked and jumped for maybe 10 seconds. I figured that a small earth tremor had done it, a rare Nebraska panhandle earth tremor, whose sole objective was to spill my coffee.
