(11,764 posts)The problem is that while White Nationalists are or at least were socially unacceptable at one point they have ALWAYS been aligned with the power base in the United States which has been wealthy White Protestant Christian Men. While they have not wanted to be associated with White Nationalism after the disaster and tragedy of the Holocaust during WWII, there is still a home for it among conservative thought because conservatives believe in hierarchy in which White Men occupy the top and middle tiers of power.
Democratic Socialists on the other hand, represent a threat to hierarchy as socialism in general is about equitable distribution of power and resources. Democratic Socialists scare everyone to the right of them. People who believe in the infallibility of Capitalism and the status quo are terrified of socialists, even the lighter Democratic Socialist. Socialism represents a threat to the status quo and a change in which people who are considered of lower status might be afforded an actual equality that would threaten the White supremacist notion of their elevated status.
