(949 posts)What is ironic is that they're surely not very 'conservative' when it comes to conserving our environment. Maybe if we could show that ducks might eventually go extinct or migrate permanently to better climates? Maybe then they'd care enough.
But arguing with/about people this bigoted is sort of a false equivalency. I don't think his unfounded views deserve discussion. They're backed by what? The views of roughly four separate Biblical authors from 2700-1800 years ago, who were writing it to support their own political needs at the time. A kinder view would consider it fairy tales, but that doesn't make it any more worthy of discussion.
I guess my point is we're mostly arguing with ourselves here. The other side will say "I believe what I believe, science and empathy be damned!" (or darned). They also believe A&E overstepped its bounds.. but I thought corporations are people and have first amendment rights too? What about poor A&E? The Republicans are mostly responsible for at-will hiring (right to work) but when it comes home to roost they whine. What it comes down to is this: Republicans tend to be selfish, Dems tend to be more society/community minded. Fighting such bigoted views just reinforces selfish people to think they must be right, since they are causing such a stir. They want to feel like they are persecuted, like their savior. War on Christmas etc. Why give it to them?
