11. No. The development office does not have access to academic records.

I, as a development coordinator, when I was a development coordinator, have no need to know why you left the school or what grade you got in 10th grade chemistry...so most schools' privacy policies don't entitle me to access that information.

Likewise, I know all sorts of things about our parents and alumni (where they work, how much money they make, how much they give to charity, are they married, do they have kids, are their kids coming up on an age where they would be a legacy potential student, are they related to any current students, did they recently come into a large sum of money, what types of causes do they give money to, what political candidates have they given money to leads me to know their politics, ...I know a lot) that the academic staff has no need of knowing and are likewise not allowed to access under the privacy policy of the school. The terminal on my desk with the database on it has a password...and the principal doesn't have that password (HR and the President of the Board of Directors does) because she's not permitted to know what I know. It's none of her business.
