Police found one of the suspects believed to be in his late teens or 20s dead in the garage. The other was flown to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest, police Sgt. J.R. Fiste said at the scene.

Yes, good for him for being aware and prepared and armed. It's much better than being dead.
I hope more criminals will start to realize what the neighbor did: Even though someone might not look capable of shooting a gun, it's very possible that they are indeed capable--and willing to do so to protect themselves or their family.
I suppose some will bemoan this as Castle Doctrine Murder.
