Trump/Media Conspire a Conflict of Interest

President-elect and Media meet behind closed doors.

Our President-elect has called an off-camera meeting with the fifth estate, the press. He has "summoned" the leading news organizations and anchormen/women to convene outside of the public eye. The fifth estate could be the last defense for Free Speech. Democracy's hard line in the sand. What can President-elect Trump say to the media that he would not want shared with us?

As media businesses we hope the press honestly report on the activities of the Government, albeit editors/publishers have a subjective point of view and in most cases a profit motive. Meeting behind towered doors with agreement not to divulge draws into question the "honest" reporting. It undermines the truthiness of product. This is not an open and transparent government/media relationship, it is the opposite.

Off Camera is an illusion. There is nothing legally binding about it. Without disclosure, the media in attendance is in collusion to conform our "news" for an unreported agenda. Party or persona should not trump our right/need to know. As consumers that is what we are buying.

Did our President-elect suggest he could keep mainstream news media out of the loop? He demonstrated his ability to circumvent them on Youtube with his first 100 days speech. Perfectly legal if the case and companies wishing continued access for profits just might bow down to this creative leashing of opinions.

Sharing may be the only Freedom of Press left.

Only one poll counts

Ignore the rest. Get out and vote without being consoled by any news leading to a false sense of security.

We are the media under attack.

Anyone who posts an opinion on the internet is classified as "publishing".

Donnie's attack on the First Amendment is not just opening an attack on established media outlets but anyone who expresses themselves in any medium. At least Donnie's wife has brought that foreseeable conclusion to the conversation.

All America needs is more lawyers.

Not a problem. Democracy involves putting bullies down, much like mad dogs.

The War for America's Soul, Important for the World

Many ask me why do I think the election in the States is important for Canadians. Simply put, if Trump is elected and initiates his hardening of the Mexican border, Canada is next, and it won't be a wall Many Americans like to think of Canada as the release valve to poor US policy. That era would be over. Any military strategist would tell you that if you have the Pacific ocean, the Atlantic ocean and harden the southern border, there is only one task left. Secure the northern border. There is no bank that simply has three walls.

Unfortunately for Canadian sovereignty we have the longest undefended border with the US. It is economically unfeasible to build a wall that Trump may decide "the wall just got ten feet taller". Given the incongruency of "democracy" and "being your neighbors policeman" many Canadians would not accept the harmonization of our values with that of securing resources by force.

To live in a gated community, America would need to build the gate with Canada inside, forcing Canadians to accept values inconsistent with their democratic ideals of enabling people to forge their own path, together, whereever they live.

So now the war between Canada and the States is one of mere propaganda to help Americans see that their leaders who ply on the worst in human nature do not reflect what is in their best interests. Protectionism does not work, gated communities do not make inclusive societies and there are greater values than just grabbing all the money from everyone else. Trump is good at that but is that truly what America has been reduced too? A man's worth to society is how he can horde for himself?
