Police Arrest Rabbis Near Gaza-Israel Border at a Rally to Highlight Starvation

New York Times

Seven rabbis and peace activists were arrested on Friday near the border with Gaza after they tried to bring food supplies into the territory, according to two participants and the campaign group that organized the effort.

The detainees were among a group of roughly 30 rabbis and activists from Israel and the United States who were stopped by police officers as they tried to reach the Erez crossing, a major transit point between Israel and northern Gaza.

Organized by Rabbis for Ceasefire, a peace movement based in the United States, the effort was intended to build support for a truce and to highlight rising reports of starvation in Gaza. A global authority on food security, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification initiative, has predicted an imminent famine in northern Gaza, the area of the territory closest to Erez.

The protest was timed to coincide with the week of Passover, a Jewish festival that celebrates the biblical story of the liberation of Jews from slavery in ancient Egypt.

The defense began cross-examination of Pecker. Here's a recap of some of the top lines

Source: CNN

The defense started its cross-examination of David Pecker, the former publisher of the National Enquirer.

Trump attorney Emil Bove tried to argue that Pecker’s work helping Donald Trump during the 2016 election was nothing new or out of the ordinary.

Bove’s cross-examination lasted just over an hour before court ended for the day. The defense will continue its questioning with Pecker on Friday.

Trump downplays deadly Charlottesville rally as a 'peanut' compared to Israel-Gaza protests

Source: CNN

Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday night downplayed the 2017 white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, which led to a woman’s death, as a “peanut” compared to the demonstrations happening across the US against Israel’s actions in Gaza.

In August 2017, White nationalists, neo-Nazis and other right-wing groups descended on Charlottesville to protest the city’s decision to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee, with some gathered chanting, “Jews will not replace us.” One of the attendees rammed his car into a crowd, killing a 32-yeard-old paralegal and injuring several others.

There have been no reports of any comparable violence occurring during the pro-Palestinian demonstrations taking place across the country, which have centered largely on college campuses. Public officials have condemned incidents of antisemitism that have occurred amid the protests and raised concerns over the safety of Jewish students.

Trump’s comments are his latest attempt to minimize the Charlottesville incident. He was widely condemned in 2017 for declaring there were “very fine people” on both sides of the demonstrations. Joe Biden invoked those comments when he announced his 2020 president campaign against Trump.

Trump is unindicted co-conspirator in 2020 Michigan fake electors probe, investigator testifie

Source: CNN

(CNN) — Former President Donald Trump is an unindicted co-conspirator in the Michigan attorney general’s probe into the attempts to overturn the 2020 election in that state, an investigator testified Wednesday.

The investigator also said the list of unindicted co-conspirators includes ex-Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, and former Trump campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis.

The revelations came at a pretrial hearing in Lansing for some of Michigan’s fake electors, who have been charged by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel in her investigation into the attempts to subvert the 2020 election.

Nessel, a Democrat, charged 16 fake Republican electors from Michigan last summer. CNN reported in December that the investigation was ongoing and appeared to be expanding. One of those charged already agreed to cooperate with Nessel’s prosecutors, in exchange for the charges being dropped. The remaining 15 defendants have all pleaded not guilty.

Trump Says Roe's Demise 'Working Out Very Well'

Los Angeles Magazine

Former President Donald Trump took his boast about overturning Roe v. Wade to a critical swing state Tuesday, even as he was stuck in court in New York City.

Appearing remotely before going into court for his election interference trial, Trump told Philadelphia's ABC6 that his administration "terminated Roe v. Wade."

"When you look at it and you look at what's happening all over the country now, states are voting," Trump said. "Ohio just voted. All different by the way. It's tailor made, and it's really working out well for people and they're very, very happy."

Ohio voters voted last November to amend the state constitution to protect abortion rights with about 57 percent support. Similar efforts have also passed in red states like Kansas and Kentucky and appear headed for the ballot in Florida and Arizona this November.
